Programs of Note

Global Literacy Program

Chatham Day School, in conjunction with the Global Literacy Project, is working in partnership with a South African school to promote literacy, foster global awareness, and provide for a diffusion of culture. The program, which promotes a thematic study of South Africa and provides for numerous reading and writing opportunities, wis integrated with the Middle School social studies and language arts curricula.  The objective is two fold.  Chatham Day School students are immersed in cultural diversity, literary enrichment, and community service.  Our South African partner school receives valuable resources, reading incentives, opportunities to develop language acquisition, literacy promotion, and cultural diffusion.  As a result of the partnership, students, faculty, and administrators in both locales have a deeper compassion for others, a commitment to make the world a better place, and an expanded world perspective.

R.O.C.K.  Reading Out Loud Creates Knowledge

This program encourages young first grade readers to read out loud to therapy dogs, who serve as non-judgmental listeners.  This helps children build self-confidence, achieve success, and instill the desire to become lifelong readers.

Fitness for Life

The “Fitness for Life” program is designed to promote a lifelong commitment to physical fitness which is essential for a healthy mind and body.  Unlike most schools, Chatham Day School requires students to attend physical education classes daily.  It is expected that our students will graduate with a variety of experiences and skills that they will be able to use no matter what particular sport(s) might interest them in secondary school and beyond.
